Compostable staple fibre products will support the growing demand for sustainable materials in nonwovens.

At the recent EDANA International Nonwovens Symposium in Lyon, France, PTT MCC Biochem (PTTMCC), announced a strategic partnership with International Fibres Group (IFG).
The two companies will collaboratively promote newly-developed staple fibres made from bio-based polybutylene succinate (BioPBS) under the IFGBio brand.
The aim is to accelerate sustainable nonwovens based on BioPBS in applications such as food and beverage, filtration, geotextiles, construction etc.
PTTMCC is the world largest commercial producer of bio-based polybutylene succinate under the BioPBS tradename with production of 20,000 tons per year at its plant in Rayong, Thailand, and is a sjoint venture between PTT Global and Mitsubishi Chemical.
BioPBS is partially derived from renewable resources and has superior compostability performance at ambient temperature. It shows excellent performance in low temperature heat sealability, high heat resistance and flexibility compared to other biodegradable resins.
IFG is one of Europe’s leading independent producers of polypropylene-based staple fibres used in the production of flooring, rugs, furniture, filtration, foodstuff packaging, car interiors and other nonwoven fabrics. It has facilities in Belgium, the United Kingdom and Austria and has implemented a core strategy to develop an industry-leading range of more sustainable plant-based staple fibre solutions.
